During the year 2000 it is estimated that 10,000 new case
of laryngeal cancer will be diagnose and nearly 4,000 of these people will die
of the disease. (The American Cancer Society) Men are affected more often than
women.
Laryngeal cancer has a high probability of
metastasizing/spreading to other parts of the body if the cancer is not
identified and treated immediately. Also, avoidance of risk factors diminishes
the risk of development of cancer to the larynx. However, cancer of the larynx
can also develop in individuals who avoid risk factors involved with the
development of the larynx, however, this is uncommon.
