Symptoms associated with laryngeal cancer will vary with the size and
location of the cancer. Laryngeal Cancer most commonly forms on the vocal cords,
but can also form above and below the level of the larynx. If the cancer forms
on the vocal cords, changes like hoarseness will most likely occur. Cancers that
are above the level of the vocal cords will cause a lump on the neck, a sore
throat or pain in the ear. Cancers that form below the level of the vocal cords
are rare, but will cause difficulty in breathing and or audible inspiration.
If you have any of the following symptoms beyond TWO
weeks, you should contact your physician:
- Hoarseness
- Lasting cough
- Lasting sore throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Pain when swallowing
- Breathing difficulties
- Persistent ear pain
- A lump or mass in the neck
- Unplanned, sudden weight loss
